Step-by-step: workarounds for Free / Plus / Pro users

Full MCP tool execution requires Business/Enterprise/Edu, but you have two workarounds:

• Use the search/fetch subset. Many MCPs expose search and fetch tools that Free/Plus/Pro can call inside a connector. This is enough for a knowledge-lookup workflow.
• Add an MCP-aware alternative. Cursor, Claude Desktop, Windsurf, Zed and VS Code Copilot all accept full MCP servers on their free tiers. If ChatGPT's tier limit blocks you, run the same MCP in Claude Desktop for free instead.

Why is ChatGPT more locked-down than Claude for MCP?
